ESTACA MOTO-TECH: the electric race

An electric motorcycle created from scratch by passionate students. This is the challenge set by ESTACA Moto-Tech, the emblematic association of the ESTACA engineering school.

With their E-perf project, stemming from a desire to create high performance combined with a desire to acquire skills for tomorrow's industry, they seek to rethink the traditional motorcycle by fully embracing electric technology, in order to learn as much as possible from it and perhaps even improve motorcycle performance.

The project is taking shape on the basis of the Yamaha R6; the frame, suspension and brakes will be reused. The rest, however, will be the responsibility of the student-members, who will have to design the fairings, chassis and motorization. To help them, state-of-the-art equipment is at their disposal, and industry professionals are collaborating to ensure the project's success.

On the long road to this project, the motor has already been acquired, along with the battery and controller. The teams' energies are now focused on rearranging the battery cells to overcome one of the major difficulties on a motorcycle - the limited space available.

The bike is scheduled to be on the road by May 2025, initially with a performance of 75hp and 200kg, and will then be optimized for the 2025/2026 season.

For the project infrastructure, the heart of E-Perf beats in the "nursery". This space, equipped with tools and computers with 3D modeling software, offers students all the resources they need to realize their ambitions. This is where the ESTACA associations are based, and where the bike will go from computer plans to the test bench.

Since its creation in 1998, ESTACA MotoTech has been at the heart of innovative projects. Among them, a prototype front-wheel suspension system presented at two world motorcycle shows. This year, with a wealth of competition experience under their belts, the student-members are embarking on the design of E-Perf.

The association is also involved in projects involving combustion engines, such as reassembling the engine of a CRF 450 in order to enter it in hill-climbing races and introduce association members to motorcycling on the track.

To promote motorcycle culture among students, ESTACA Moto-Tech also includes mechanical workshops to introduce students to mechanics, and conferences with motorcycle professionals.
