Railway engineering, a buoyant market
In an article published in September 2025, News Tank Mobilités interviews Marc Ciais, head of the rail sector at ESTACA and alumnus of the class of 2003, on the occasion of the opening of the 3rd major of the 5th year: "Projects and infrastructure works".
A new major to give our graduates access to jobs that recruit
"The railway engineering market is not only buoyant, it's aggressive.[...] The rail industry is recruiting on a massive scale", Marc Ciais reminds us in the article.
The opening of this major was prompted by the fact that more and more ESTACA graduates from the railway sector are turning to railway construction companies, which are keen to recruit operational engineers who understand the system in its entirety. So it was time to adapt to this growing demand!
Companies wishing to recruit our graduates at an increasingly early stage, to make up for the shortage of engineers specialized in railways, are also offering students the opportunity to complete their 5th year on a professionalization contract...
Why become a railway engineer with ESTACA?
"One of our objectives is to increase enrolment, because we know that the market is tight and that there are real needs. In France today, we need around 500 railway engineers a year. But we only train 30 to 40. So the need is obvious. Rail is a sector of the future, a virtuous sector by its very nature. It's a clean, economical and frugal system," says Marc Ciais in the News Tank Mobilités article.
