Appointments - Laurent Mekies takes over at the helm of the Red Bull team
Laurent Mekies, who graduated in 2000, became Red Bull's Team Principal on Wednesday, replacing Christian Horner, and also President of the team!
He began his career in motorsport with Asiatech in Formula 3, before moving on to Formula 1 with the British team Arrows. He then joined the Italian Minardi team in 2003. When the team was bought by Austrian energy drink manufacturer Red Bull and renamed Scuderia Toro Rosso at the end of 2005, he was promoted to team chief engineer.
In 2014, he left the Faenza-based team to join the FIA as Safety Director and then F1 Deputy Race Director in 2017. He joined Scuderia Ferrari in September 2018 as Sporting Director. He has been in charge of the Track and Performance department since 2019. In January 2021, he was appointed Deputy Director and Race Director of Scuderia Ferrari.
In 2024, he becomes Racing Bulls Team Director. In July 2025, he was promoted to Director of the Red Bull Racing team, with immediate effect, replacing Christian Horner.
